Today we had covered the following in the class.
In class activities:
1. Discussed Chapter 19 in Mahabharat along with Bhagavad Gītā (भगवद गीता) (including fun facts on Gita)
2. Read and wrote Hindi words
2.1 We have been doing Hindi poems and emphasis is on reading them in the class

As part of learning, students are to complete the following as homework:
1. Complete the exercise at the end of Chapter 20 in Mahabharat (yellow book)
2. Read Chapter 21 and complete the exercise at the end of the chapter.

Today we had covered the following in the class.
In class activities:
1. Discussed Chapter 6 in Mahabharat
2. Read and wrote Hindi words
रस = Juice, नस = Nerve, मत , सरकस = circus, नम = humble, भर = fill, तम – darkness, कसरत / व्यायाम = exercise,
तन / देह / काया /शरीर = Body, तक / ताक / तकना = Stare, तर = float/ swim, अमर = immortal, अमन = peace, असर = effect, समर , भरत , रतन = Gem stone.
3. Small sentences were also written in Hindi.
3.1 कसरत कर = Do exercise
3.2 अमर, कसरत कर = Amar, do exercise
3.3 भरत, कसरत कर = Bharat, do exercise
3.4 रतन, कसरत कर = Ratan, do exercise
3.5 समर, कसरत कर = Samar, do exercise

2. Discussed Chapter 3 – Pandavas and Kauravas in the class. Covered chapter highlights like- keeping promise (Bhishma’s), boons to several characters especially Bhishma, Kunti, and her sons, and Vidura’s intellect.

Week 1 (August 22nd, 2010)- Welcome!!!
This is to share that we had good start to the Sunday School on Sunday August 22nd, 2010. We have twelve (12) students in the class. During the class we had covered the following topics:
In class activities:
1. Introductions to the class
2. Talked about expectations and in class behavior
3. Discussed about “Habits- Good and Bad”
4. High level overview of topics to be covered this year in Hinduism, Indian Culture and traditions, and Hindi (language- written and verbal skills)
5. Under Indian culture, we had talked about festivals and specifically talked about Raksha Bandhan. Details are in the textbook on page 37 on Raksha Bandhan.
Homework Due: August 29th, 2010.
As part of learning, students are to complete the following as homework:
1. Each student is to be able to write their name in Hindi and explain meaning of their name to the class.
2. Each of them need to read on Raksha Bandhan and prepare for the next class. Shivani has volunteered to present the class her understanding, and experience on Raksha Bhandhan.
3. Each one is to review Hindi letters in your book and come prepared for the next class to write three simple sentences in Hindi.
